hopit Edge and hopit Manufacturing

hopit Edge and hopit Manufacturing serve different parts of the hopit ecosystem. hopit Edge is the industrial IIoT gateway and machine connectivity layer developed by HEAP Engineering GmbH. It runs near industrial equipment, connects to supported controllers and protocols, and makes selected machine and controller data available to downstream systems.

hopit Manufacturing combines machine data from hopit Edge with production context from ERP/MES systems to provide production visibility and analytics. Its current capabilities include factory and machine-state monitoring, real-time production KPIs, downtime tracking, and OEE reporting. Product-level information and demonstrations are available on the official hopit Manufacturing page.

What hopit Edge provides

hopit Edge connects to industrial systems through configurable Targets. The supported documentation includes:

The Targets and connectivity overview compares these integrations and links to their technical configuration. The hopit Edge Router selects signals and moves data between configured Targets. Edge services can also process, buffer, store, and visualize data locally according to the documented configuration.

Data flow and responsibilities

A source Target establishes the connection to a machine, PLC, CNC control, or industrial server. The Router then selects the required signals and sends them to one or more destination Targets. Target and Router configuration therefore remain responsible for controller addresses, protocol settings, signal names, sampling behavior, buffering, and the destination of each data stream.

hopit Manufacturing combines that machine data with production and order data from ERP/MES systems. Connecting hopit Edge to Manufacturing does not replace the controller-specific setup, and it does not require every available controller variable to be transferred. The relevant data is selected according to the machine and monitoring use case.

What hopit Manufacturing adds

Once relevant machine data and ERP/MES context are available, hopit Manufacturing can combine them for production monitoring, OEE calculations, and other analytics. The Manufacturing product focuses on interpreting production activity rather than configuring low-level controller communication. Examples verified by the current product page include:

  • live factory and machine-state views;
  • availability, performance, quality, and OEE indicators;
  • automatic downtime detection with operator-provided reason codes; and
  • reports that compare machines, lines, shifts, and time periods.

The exact signals required depend on the connected equipment and the production process. This page therefore does not define machine-state mappings, OEE calculations, or controller-specific variables.

Where to configure the integration

Configure controller and protocol access in hopit Edge using the relevant Target documentation. Select and route the required data with the Router.
