Connect to hopit Portal
This How-To Guide shows how to connect a hopit Edge device to the hopit Portal, so it can be monitored and managed remotely. The whole procedure is two copy-and-paste steps: the Device ID goes from the Edge to the portal, and a Connection String comes back the other way.
To get an overview of the platform please read the Introduction first. For an installation guide please see the Getting Started section.
Structure
The wizard creates an Azure Target named hopit Portal that
registers itself through the Device Provisioning Service (DPS) using the credentials in the
connection string. No IoT Hub host name or device connection string has to be entered by hand.
What you need
- A hopit Portal account with a subscription that has DPS enabled, and permission to add devices.
- Access to the hopit Edge web interface at
https://localhost:5050with a role that may edit Targets — Owner, Contributor orhopit.Edge.ContributeStreaming. To also switch on Device Monitoring, the role must be allowed to edit Routes. - Outbound internet access from the Edge device on port
5671(AMQP) and443.
Already have a Target named hopit Portal? The CONNECT TO HOPIT PORTAL button is only offered
while the device is not connected yet. To re-run the onboarding, delete that Target first, or edit
it directly like any other Azure Target.
